Essex County College Nursing Student 2015

Published

HELLO! So I decided to write an article about my experience applying into the nursing program at Essex County College being that I haven't seen much recent feedback from current/accepted students into the RN program as of 2015.

I am currently 25 and I work a fulltime and part time job. I have been in and out of school since I've graduated from high school in 08, and I have finally decided to commit to my education and get the ball rolling on my career. I went back to school Summer II 2014 and finished taking my pre reqs for the nursing program. (you can find all of this under the Nursing Course Catalog at www.essex.edu) I made sure I got an A on all my classes since I went back to school to boost up my GPA, which was a 3.4 when I applied into the program.

The first step into getting accepted to the nursing program is having all your pre reqs completed. Your science courses cannot be more then 5 years old, they WILL make you retake them before even being allowed to take the entrance exam.

Entrance Exam? YUP! -_- They brought back the entrance exam. The infamous TEAS V. once again -> -_- I will tell you this. This exam is tough, but its not impossible to pass. I studied my ass off for 3 weeks (maybe less.. but even then I wish I had studied longer) and managed to get a 70. I know that's not great, but I took this exam with others who couldn't score higher then a 30-40. To be considered for the RN program, you must score higher then a 60. If you get a 59, you'll have to take the exam again. 59.5? Nope.. take it again. Obviously, your goal is to score as high as possible. Someone may have a higher GPA then you, but if you nail this exam, YOU GOT IT IN THE BAG! I'm rooting for you! :)

I received my acceptance letter June 18, 2015 (to be exact) and I couldn't feel more accomplished! I've always heard that getting accepted into the RN program at Essex County College is EXTREMELY difficult, and for a while I was honestly psyching myself out but the hard work pays off trust me.

Hope this helps and good luck!
