ER New Grad Interview Tomorrow

Published

Hi everyone! Just wondering if anyone has any advice for me or knows some stuff that might be asked? Thanks!

I just had my new graduate interview. I studied a lot of the behavioral interview questions (Google them) and formulated some answers just for practice. My interview was very informal and she only asked me one question. She asked why I wanted to work in the ER - come up with a good answer because they will probably ask. I would advise not saying that you "want some excitement." I said that to my neighbor who is an ER doctor and he wasn't thrilled with that answer.

Well first off, I hope your interview went well! I guess I'm a little late with advice but in case you get a second interview, here are some tips for when I interviewed in the ER: they will be very impressed with you if you pride yourself with good time management and prioritization skills. The ER is very busy and hectic, so being able to keep your head on straight and not getting overwhelmed is key. Talk about how you stay organized and calm when things get rough. I talked a lot about how when I worked as an aide, I was responsible for over 20 residents by myself, and I learned a lot about managing my time and prioritizing from that when I had to shower, dress, and help everyone to the dining room in only an hour. I was also asked about dealing with difficult clients or clients that might not have insurance. Remember to treat every patient the same, no matter their circumstance, and to not judge anyone.

It did go well! I made sure to let them know about my organizing, prioritizing, and time management skills. The only thing they did not seem too thrilled about was that I graduated last August, but it's not really my fault that the job market is terrible right now.. Hopefully they can overlook that..
