EMT?CMA?DOH no help.

Published

hello. i have some questions and am hoping that someone may be able to help me.

a family member is a certified & nationally registered emt in florida. she has applied for several jobs that state "cma certification is required". if according to the florida doh website, "medical assistants are not regulated or licensed or certified in florida. medical assistants are able to do certain medical functions under the direct supervision of the physician (fs 458.0825)", then what agency provides the cma certification? is it issued by individual schools? is the only way to become a certified medical assistant to take courses? or is there an exam offered (like the "cna" state test) that could be challenged.

also, does an emt have more "medical capability" than a cma, other than the administrative/office portion of a cma? or is it the other way around?

let me say before hand that i in no way wish to sound derisive towards emt's/cma's or even the doh. just very confused and trying to help her out. she's gotten no response from the doh and we're hoping that one of you may point us in the right direction. thank you so much....:)
