Eline Student Lacking Foundation/Fundamental Knowledge--HELP!

Published

Hi all,

I need some help here. I'm an eline student going into my 2nd semester. I will be taking OB & Med-Surg.

The thing is, I feel like I have no clue what I'm doing. I got through Fundamentals with a high B, but just barely passed the Funds EOC HESI. My professor was very disorganized & I was constantly struggling to keep up. We don't receive slideshows or lectures or anything to help guide us--we just get our textbooks & do the assignments & tests. I say this not as an excuse but as an explanation--I'm one of many in my cohort that are struggling due to these things & like to point out how things work before I get "Use the lecture/slides to guide your focus" since there is no guidance like that.

I had to take the summer off & now here I am about to start OB & MS & I feel like I lack all of the fundamental nursing knowledge I should have. I know the skills & did fine in clinicals--it's the knowledge that I'm lacking. I have no clue what to do when or why. I just am not *getting* it.

I want to study but have no clue what to study & no clear picture of what I should know by now. I've always been a good, fast learner, but between the program's structure & personal life issues, I need help building up my foundation so I can continue.

Anything helps--everything from "you should know these things" to general tips or resources is much appreciated.
