Electronic Health Records and New Nurses

Published

Hello - I am doing an informal study regarding electronic health records (EHR) and new nurses in the field. If you are a new nurse and working in an environment which requires you to enter EHR's on patients as part of your care and would be willing to answer a couple questions via email, I would greatly appreciate it. I do not need your name or workplace for this study. Please email me if you can help me out.

Thanks! Mark

Or if you prefer to answer in this forum that is fine too. Here are some of my questions:

1) What is your nursing education background?

2) In addition to your clinical background, was there training regarding documentation of patient charts?

3) How long have you been a nurse?

4) What kind of care provider facilities have you worked in?

5) In your everyday care for a patient, can you describe how you document a patients chart (i.e. care plans, critical paths, interventions, assessments, outcomes, meds, etc)? Paper or electronic? Both?

6) Which method of documentation do you prefer and why?

7) If you went from paper to electronic documentation, what kind of training did you receive?

8) Do you think there are advantages to using an EHR as opposed to paper documentation?

9) Should EHR's be the only documentation method for nurses today?

10) Does using an EHR improve your patient care?
