Anyone ever read her books? I just finished Intensive Care and I'm now reading Critical Condition. SO far I think they are really good.

Yes, I loved her books. I read them as a nursing student/new grad and found them very insightful as I was entering the profession. I think they are a great read for anyone considering nursing.

Her books made me realize that I could be scared, afraid and totally human AND still be a NURSE! Read Echo Heron--she is heartfelt and practical!
What I am less than impressed with are the ads promoting lesbianism while I try to post this. I am thinking that in between these and the censorship that I will leave ...and I am getting spyware alerts.
That's it--allnurses.com is not where I want to be anymore.

All I see is an ad for scrubs. By the way, you don't have to look or click on any ads you don't want to look at. And "promoting lesbianism"? That's a pretty offensive statement in and of itself, since the last time I checked, there was nothing wrong with being a homosexual or not being a homosexual.
Topic? I liked Echo Huron's Critical Care book. I too read it in nursing school. She was smart and didn't shrink back from advocating for her patients or herself.

"Ads promoting lesbianism?" What would those be, exactly? The last ad I saw was for some college.
I've never had a spyware problem from AN. Perhaps it's another page you are on, or have visited previously? Maybe try changing the security settings on your PC?

I enjoyed Echo Heron's books as well. AND she is from my hometown of Schenectady, NY. As she wrote in one of her books, "So Schenectady!!".

Me too. I've read my copies until they're falling apart and the spines are held together by tape...and I still break them out again when I need a little reminder why I do this. And as many times as I've read them over the last decade or so, the story about Millie (Condition Critical, I think?) still chokes me up.
Echo was also a very effective and passionate nurse advocate, back before it was cool. Many of the things we enjoy and take for granted in our careers, we have her and nurses like her to thank.
When you're done with "Intensive Care" and "Condition Critical", go find a copy of "Tending Lives". It's a compilation of different nurses' (and a medic's) stories, plus accounts of several nurses that were on duty in Oklahoma City the day of the Federal building bombing. Incredibly moving and inspiring. Echo even has a few of her stories in it. (I hear she's got a morificecript of stories from NYC nurses on 9/11, but is looking for a publisher. Anyone know anyone?)
