Duquesne (Pittsburgh) 2nd degree accelerated BSN?

Published

Did anyone on here apply to the Duquesne 2nd degree program this year? Or is anyone currently going through the program?

If yes to either - how was the application process? How difficult was it to get accepted? If you're currently in it - how is the program? Do you think you're being prepared well? Is it worth the cost?

Thanks!

I recently got accepted to the Duquesne 2nd degree accelerated BSN program starting Fall 08, and am planning on attending..!!... very excited.

I have no idea what I was competing against, but I feel with acceptance rates being what they are these days with most nursing programs (especially accelerated programs), I feel grateful and lucky to have gotten in, and am really looking forward to going this fall! The only thing I would say is that their application due date was a lot earlier than most programs, and they let you know if you were accepted within a month of the due date! It's nice to know this early what I will be doing in the Fall...

MollyDee,

Curious - what was your first degree in? Did you have all the pre-requisites from your first degree or did you have to take some before applying? If so, where did you take them?

Thanks!!

I have a BS in Exercise Science from Syracuse... I had most of my prereqs already done with that degree, but I had to take Microbiology (at a local community college, I am living in CA right now) and I am taking Pharmacology online through Duquesne this summer.

I think that Duquesne's program is definitely worth the price... it's almost half the price of some of the other private California schools I was looking at, and cost of living in Pittsburgh is very inexpensive compared to other areas in the country. And you really can't beat that it's a 12 month program... I'll be a nurse by next year!

With just a month left until graduation, I was kicked out of the accelerated BSN program. It didnt matter that I had a 3.0 GPA. If you want to go there, make sure you dont complain about any of the preceptors. Just be a guinea pig going through the program. Even if a preceptor gets yelled at by a patient, you do not have any rights to report them. Dont end up on their black list because if you do, you'll be kicked out. If you ask me if it's worth the money, you can guess my answer. Nobody in the hierarchy will listen to you. They make you write a rebuttal. Then they dont even look into it. They'll get together and plan how to officially kick you out of the program so you cant sue them. If I were a Pittsburgh resident or from the east coast, I'd sue them. But because my commitment for school was 1 year and my family is in California, I returned home to complete my dream for becoming a nurse elsewhere. It's not worth my time and effort to fight them. I am so ashamed of Duquesne nursing and their entire hierarchy. Hope you guys will have a better experience, there.
