At the end of this month I will be done with all of my GE classes at a community college and I will have my AA. Because of budget cuts Im unable to transfer to a 4-year university for my BSN. My other option is to get my AA in nursing at grossmont community college, but I think I might not be able to apply until next year...ugh. So my last option is to join Kaplan or Concord and get my LVN licenses and then later go for my LVN to a BSN at a university. I need any advise on what to do or if there is any other options that I might be able to take to get into any kind of nursing program faster then a year from now. Thanks for your help!

I'm not sure why budget cuts are preventing you from transferring? Are they accepting fewer students, or what?
Do you have all your GE requirements for a BSN, or just for the AA in nursing? What about your nursing specific pre-reqs, like A&P and Micro? If you can't get into a nursing program in a timely manner, you could start working on the Bachelors requirements if you are pretty sure that you want a BSN eventually.

I hear a lot of hospitals in my area (NY) are trying not to hire unless you have BSN. Some of my instructors have also said there is talk of only allowing BSN at some point in the future. How true this information is I don't know but I can say a BSN will give you much more opportunity and that little bit extra to help you get a job when you graduate.
I have all of my pre-reqs done for a transferring/AA in nursing, plus I have all my general stuff done too. A BSN is something I want, but in order to enter a university I have to wait until next year to apply with the chance I might not be able to get in cuz they cut there nursing students in half. So an option I had was to pay 30k at Kaplan or Concord and get my LVN, but im not sure if this is worth it? would it be easier to go from an LVN to a BSN?
Thanks

Stay away from the for profit diploma mills as your classes are worthless if you want to transfer to a 4yr or community college to bridge over, plus, you can get the degree(BSN or ADN) cheaper at a state school or community college or a technical school than what you would pay at the for profit diploma mill such as kaplan or concorde

Don't waste your money going to kaplan or concorde. go to city college and put your name on the lvn. your anatomy and physiology is equal to health care essentials. you would need your cna though before applying. Also grossmont health care occupations offers an lvn course program Registration is on November. you might want to contact them because you will need to take the Teas. Also southwestern college offers an lvn program.
Good luck.

I don't know your situation, but you only speak of one BSN program.
Have you looked outside your area? It might be worth it to move away for 2-3 years and get your BSN.
