Just wanted to give people info about Dominican College ABSN. I wish there had been more info available before I attended. I am available to answer questions, but to summarize;The program is very unorganized. Rather than trying to help alleviate the stress associated with an accelerated program, they INTENTIONALLY try to make it more ridiculous. They don't care about the students. I have seen so much unfair treatment towards students. The instructors are not qualified at teaching. There is something wrong with a school that only has ~ a 60% NCLEX pass rate. This program definitely needs restructuring. Go to a different nursing school. Stress is to be expected in nursing school, but be VERY choosy about your program. Nursing school may have high attrition rates, but this school sets students up for failure rather than supplying quality efforts to make good nurses.

dominican college absnthe dominican college 2011 nclex pass rates for the absn and wabsn programs are currently reported at 91% and 88% respectively.

routine counseling sessions with the program coordinator are held throughout the duration of the program. these sessions are available to all absn students, and make every effort to address their concerns immediately.

in an effort to increase the likelihood of academic success for applicants accepted into the absn program, the office of admissions now calculates the cumulative gpa for all baccalaureate courses on each evaluation of transfer credits. this means that the grades for courses transferred into the baccalaureate institution are also calculated into the gpa - not just the grades achieved at the degree-granting institution. this process was developed in collaboration with the director of admissions, intending to provide a more accurate indication of both the applicant's past academic achievements and future academic potential, and will be used as a criterion for admission into the 2012-13 absn class.

the accelerated curriculum at dominican college is organized according to the courses and credits endorsed by new york state department of education and the american association of colleges of nursing. graduates consistently report that they have been well prepared for the positions they were hired for - in intensive care units, internships, and staff positions all over the country.

The NCLEX pass rate may have gone up, but it's true that if you are not good at teaching yourself the material, you will have a difficult time doing well. Many students fail out, which helps to raise the school's stats. The staff is non-receptive to any feedback from the students, and non-supportive. The clinical lab at the school has insufficient equipment for learning. Much of it is broken and/ or outdated. Also, there are many "hidden fees" the students were unaware they would be paying. The quality of the mostly sub-par staff, the horrible clinical lab facility, and the other lacking resources all equate to an overpriced, poor education from this school. The students are unhappy with their experience, and they are the most accurate sources for what to expect in this program.

I'm sure that every nursing school has their flaws. I heard that the NCLEX passing rate has gone up for Dominican. And, that's true for any school...if you can't manage to teach yourself, then you will have a difficult time. Honestly, I've been to several schools...any private school has "hidden fees."

Wow. I got accepted here and the program starts in May. Do you know how much the program is? I haven't heard a nothing about this…I am starting to get a bit nervous now… UGH!!

Sorry I have to agree with infostudnurse. I graduated from the Dominican ABSN program. I read all of these threads about Dominican College before I started and must say, after graduating that I do agree. The teachers, even the head of the program, don't really care about the students success. All they care about is picking out the weaker ones, eliminating them unfairly. There was even a time where they gave second third chances to certain other people, but easily eliminated others. Understandable that they want to increase their pass rate, but how about actually teaching the students? Faculty need to understand that not everyone is prepared, this is why we are all in school! Hello!? If I could count, only less than a handful of teachers care about their students. Not to mention any names, but one teacher was actually sexist and racist. He/She put more pressure and were so much more critical towards the males of the group and only favored the white females. Not even kidding! People in the class, likable people, people who get along with everyone, since they were not white, were picked on and sometimes even humiliated both in class and/or clinical. They only care about and put effort and give pep talks to the white people. It's completely unfair because its exactly those people who cheated their whole way throughout the program! They purchased answers from books or even from previous students. It's ridiculous that they sucked up even to the head of the program and got away with murder. The only bright side is that the program is the cheapest and shortest in the NY/NJ area. Other than that, the teachers are horrible, racist, and don't care about their students success.

I have a question if you already got accepted to the ABSN Dominican weekday program and have already registered for the first term classes and you were told that you need to get a B- or better in the pre req courses and you didn't get a B- in anatomy do you think they will be strict on that? how strict are they? Also who would i speak to to get it waived? Transfer department or nursing department?
