I have moved to the Manhattan, KS area and am wanting to know the reputation of the hospitals in the area. Can anyone help me?

Mercy is probably the best there. I have many friends who have worked there in the past, and they were all pretty fond of the place. I do the agency thing myself, but I can ask around if you'd like.

I live in Manhattan and Mercy is the only hospital. They have done a lot of updating, remodling lately and have new facilities and 'state of the art' equiptment. My experience there was not good. I worked in Med-Surg and the management left a lot to be desired. Maybe another area of the hospital would be better. I have a friend that works in same-day surgery and she likes it pretty much but gets fed up as well with the politics.
I chose to drive to Topeka. I have worked at Stormont Vail Hospital as a cardiac nurse for 3 years and love it. I work 12 hr shifts so it's not so bad and have even car pooled with others occasionally. Good luck in your job search and let me know if I can be of assistance! :)
Thank you Eddy and HRTFIXER for your information.
Eddy: I would appreciate it if you would ask around for me regarding Mercy. It does sound like there are some issues there.
HRTFIXER: Did you see any of the politics become an issue in the Med/Surg department while you were there or is that an isolated issue in Surgery? Was the management issue the main reason you left Mercy or were their other factors? I just want to be sure that I am making the right choice if I stay in Manhattan or if looking further into driving to Topeka may be what is right for me.
Thanks again for your help!

I spoke to a few folks specifically about Mercy in Manhatton, KS. One had pretty good things to say, and the other was pretty mixed. Politics, however, was something that both mentioned was an issue at times. It seems that there are a few rotten apples and it may be spoiling the bunch. I'm not going to get in to any specifics just because it's such a small world here, and I'm not sure I want to offend anyone. Suffice it to say, I think, now, that there are some good floors/units to work at Mercy and some bad ones. PLEASE keep in mind this is not my first hand experience, just word of mouth.
