Do you work in unsafe neighborhood?

I see many job ads offering $10k-15k bonuses and $50+/hr pay for nights and weekends.....most of these offers come from hospitals which happen to be in extremely bad neighborhoods....for example West & North Philadelphia. I always wanted to know what draws nurses to take a job in one of these places? Is it the money? Short commute? What kind of protection does the hospital or your workplace offers? Do you go to work scared your car will be damaged or stolen or someone might attack you, rape...etc.?
