Do withdrawals on transcript reduce my change to get accepted?

Hi everyone,

I had gone to a couple of communities colleges and recently left an art school after three years of attending. It was a bad phase when I just took classes and withdrew from them many times. Now I've gotten better and am ready to commit to nursing as a career. I'm planning to go back to De Anza college to take the prerequisites and then apply for the nursing program. I'm worrying that the many Ws on my transcript would earn me disapproval at first sight.

My overall GPA is ~3.3-3.5. I got Bs in the Anatomy and Physiology classes in 2008. The rest of my GE classes were mostly As or Bs. Now I'm willing to take a lot of classes and study hard to raise the GPA to 3.7-3.8 before I start the application but will it be helpful? Will my Ws forever mark me as someone with issue who is not suitable for the nursing career? Is there any way for me to makeup for them? How about future employers? Will they judge me from my student transcripts from the Ws? I'm ready to work hard but I want to know if I still have some chance or I'd be better off forgetting nursing.

Any input or advice is much appreciated.

Thanks.
