Disqualifying Medications/Conditions for Navy Reserve RN?

Good Morning All!

I am currently just starting RN school, so I know that I am getting ahead of myself, but I am a little older at 32 so I want my planning to be pretty firm going forward. The last thing I need is to waste time!

I have looked at all the various services, and have really felt a strong pull to join the Navy Reserve once I get my BSN and then serve while I pursue my MSN/DNP at least. The info I have found for my below question is ambiguous, and there is no Medical Recruiter within easy driving range for me, so I was hoping someone on this awesome board could help.

Does anyone have a list of the disqualifying conditions for medical Officer candidates? I have ADHD and mild-depression that is well controlled through medication, and has been for over a decade, and it would be really disappointing to find out that I am out of the running before I even left the finish line.

Much appreciation for any help you guys can provide.

Thanks,

Christopher

I know for certain, you cannot be on depression medication current to your commission. If I am not mistaken you must be completely off meds for a certain amount of time(1 yr) or more. And a letter from your Dr.'s stating you no longer require medication and are no longer clinically depressed. After this i am almost positive you will have to have a waiver.

My best advice would be to be absolutely awesome in nursing school. Volunteer as much as possible, maybe get some experience under your belt, if you do not have any. VOLUNTEERING is a huge huge help.

If you are still depressed and require the meds to keep you healthy, than maybe its not written in the stars. Im basically saying look out for your health above everything else. Good luck, and I hope everything works out.
