Direct Entry Programs with Specialty in Women's Health

Published

Hello,

I have just started looking into programs for people with no previous nursing experience but a bachelors in something else. I am having trouble finding many programs with a specialty in Women's Health, and I am also getting confused about the different names for direct entry like GEPN and MEPN. Could anyone help me work out the difference between these programs (or are they the same) and perhaps find a resource to help me locate schools with this program because currently I am only coming up with a handful of them, although perhaps that is all there are.

Thank you for any help!

Hi,

I think all of those programs are the same. My program is called "Masters Entry", and others are called "Direct Entry". Basically, they're programs for people who have a BS or BA in something other than nursing. Different programs have different pre-requisites that you have to complete before starting. Also, some of these programs award you a BSN as well as a MSN, and in some you get a RN and MSN (no BSN).

I'm just finishing a DE program at Boston College. I'm not in Women's Health, but know several people who are and who have really liked the program. We also have a new, somewhat related program, where you do your concentration in Forensic Nursing. There's a lot of women's health stuff in that concentration, as it relates to sexual assault and domestic violence, but it's not just limited to those two areas. It's not for everyone, but it seems pretty interesting.

Good luck in your search!

Are you looking for schools in one particular area? MGH Institute of Health Professions in Boston also offers a dual Adult/Women's Health track in their direct entry program. I believe Regis College in Weston (outside of Boston) just recently started offering this track as well.
