Difference between board monitoring or impaired nurse program?

I'm just curious what the difference is between being board monitored or being in TPAPN, which is the Texas impaired nurse program. Are the terms the same or similar. I'm just curious because I'm being offered TPAPN and someone I know is doing board monitoring.

In Michigan the HPRP does all the monitoring. The difference is between regulatory and non regulatory monitoring. Regulatory is NOT confidential with the info public on your license. Non regulatory is confidential with no ding on your license. If you have had any criminal offenses or diverted you are usually regulatory. If you can stay with the non reg it is best so when you finish the program your license is clear. :yeah:I don't know about Texas but maybe that's the advantage of TPAPN over board monitoring. tweet

It depends on what the nurse practice act says. In Kentucky, being in the KARE program protects your license and everything remains anonymous as long as you comply with the program. If you complete the program there is nothing to show you've been through the program. If you drop out of KARE or don't qualify, then you may receive sanctions, have license restrictions, and have your name published on the record. Every state has it's own variations of which is which. Some states don't offer an alternative program meaning everything is punitive. If you're not sure what to do, consult with a license defense attorney (The American Association of Nurse Attorneys). I know there is a general resistance to consulting with an attorney among nurses. Making the wrong choices can adversely affect your license and may even make you "un-hire-able".

Hey tex, I am the one who is going to be monitered by the boardl. I have hired and attorney. From what i understand, the board moniters all of my drug screns and my meetings and whatever they feel they need to moniter. My quartly reports from my employer go diredtly to the board and any, i mean any mess up and they will sspent my liscence no questins asked. If i have to take any meds i have to fax and call them to let them know and this icludes spilled gas when filling my car and anticeptic hand sanitizer! it just seems crazy to me! i have migraine and have to have my md fax my rx to them and i have to keep a copy because i am ultimately responsibe for all infractions, or i will be suspended! tough but worth my liscence in the long run!!!!'

I am not sure how the tpapn thing works but it is most likly a little less stringent....i guess.

I will hav to keep you informed.

My attorney was to drop my papers off the past week, i'm waiting to hear what happened there.

so how are things with you? as soon as i hear from my attorney and the board i am ready to get back out there and see if ican find a job; yet another broken bridge to try to cross! let me know houw you are doing! i feel a kindship. take care and GOD be with you in all you do!!!!:redpinkhe
