I work in a hospital as an LPN and in an out patient hemodialysis clinic as a PCT. It amazes me that I can not give the heparin push in dialysis and retain my LPN status but as a PCT I can my fellow coworkers at both places agree it is a crock......
But my question is this?????????????????????
Does anyone know of LPN's that work in a hemodialysis clinics?
If so what do they do?
Thank you all for the read and any input.

Yes, Billyboy !
Depends on the state you work in I guess. Here in Va. there are many, MANY LPNs in dialysis, and they do everything the RN does except charge and take Dr. orders. They do all the assessments, meds, and everything else that goes with it... they can not hang blood, but our clinic no longer does that anyway.. we send them up the hill to the hopsital if they need blood products now. There is very little difference in what LPNs and RNs do in dialysis clinics here. Our techs (PCTs) push heparin as well and also do caths and cathcare.. but they don't do assessments.
So as you see, each state is different indeed.
