Dialysis Care Exposed in the Media

Published

I am wondering how many of you recently saw the series of articles that is being published by Propublic on dialysis care in the United States. I was shocked to read all of it but encouraged to see that several physicians/nephrologists would not want the care that patients are receiving. These articles hopefully will change the care that patients receive in many units.. not all unit provide substandard care, but, after these articles I would suggest that all look at survey findings.

I believe I read the article it was basically negative right? After I read it I felt horrible that anyone would experience that type of care. I also felt ashamed that I had worked dialysis but then remembered that I never witnessed such gross neglect of care at the clinics I worked at.

I have worked at two separate outpatient clinics and in neither of them have I ever witnessed that type of care to the patients. If anything I wish the orientation for new nurses to dialysis would be better.

There is a series at Propublic and it is an ongoing series. Unfortunately, as the comments suggest, this type of care as well as other less-than-safe care is, in fact, delivered to many patients in many units. That is the reality. Indeed there are good facilities and unfortunately not all are good
