Diabetes and CNA

Nursing Students CNA/MA

I am new here, and with a rather silly question... I am a CNA at a new job - for about 2 months in this job. I am a diabetic, and evidently almost passed out on the nurse during the weekend shift. Reasoning was my diabetes is evidently becoming out of control again. Is there any action that could be seen about this fact that could compromise my job at this location? I would hope not, for when I get my LPN, I would love to stay at this work location. I wrote in my medical information I was type 1 diabetic, and made sure everyone that works around me, or may even just talk to me knows this fact just in case. I know they can see this hypo episode as a safety issue, but anything else? Thanks :)((sorry, if this is not worded correctly, not totally awake))

I'm a little confused about what exactly your question is; are you asking if your diabetes is a safety issue, or whether or not you can be fired for being diabetic? I'm pretty sure the answer to both is no, as long as it can be well controlled while you are at work.

As long as you're actually taking your breaks (I know, hard to do!) and using them to test/snack/etc. as needed, it seems like you should be just fine.

Good luck!

Thank you for your response - and sorry for just now getting back. This answered my question exactly. I apologise for my question, how it was worded, was not completely awake.

It was something along the lines of, with diabetes, I have frequent hypoglycemia at work - my doctor and I are working on this. But was not sure if anything could be said about it and I could get fired.

But again, thank you :)
