Dewitt Army Hospital : Do I call or just wait ?

Nurses General Nursing

Hi everyone,

I have just relocated to Virginia due to my husband being active duty military. I am a registered nurse and have worked in behavioral health. I submitted my resume to Dewitt Army hospital and checked the status and it has been rated as qualified, however have not received any calls for any jobs that I applied for. I have heard that it may take a while, but how long do I wait? I have not been here a month yet but am getting very anxious because I am really ready to start working and do not want to sit around because I have changed jobs frequently due to the military. Does anyone out there know the process and how long it may take? Should I call the nurse manager directly and inquire about any job openings on the floor:down::up:? Can anyone out there help me? I really just want to work! Thanks.

I applied for one job there that closed on the 12th, and on the 19th, I found out it was forwarded to the hiring person. I applied for a different one that closed on the 18th, and I haven't heard anything at all. I like that I could see that 18 people applied for the job, though I have no clue how many of the 18 were moved to the next level. Applying to gov't jobs is different than other places, but this is my first time doing so, as an RN. I have a friend who works at Bethesda, and I know she stayed on top of the nurse recruiter regarding her application, not the unit manager. I hope someone has some inside info. =)

Honestly, you follow up periodically and be looking at other places while you wait for their call. I cannot speak for Dewitt but I know other Federal Hospitals and that have a 6-12month hiring process. If the nurse manager called you tommorow and said "we need you immediately" it would still them at least 45-days. Being a military wife, you already know the Feds move SLOW.. If you have prior experience with them that should help with the credentialing process and give you hiring preference.

Thanks for the info. I will defintely try to contact the nurse recruiter. How exactly can you see where you stand as far as checking the status of your resume and how many people applied for that particular job? :)

Did you apply through http://www.armycivilianservice.com? When I go there, I go to the link for "How to Apply," one of the choices is to "View my status" and I pick "Resume builder/ Answer." Once I log into Answer, I go to Status Tracking, and it shows me if there's any progress on my resume (as well as how many applied for the job they're giving me info on). I can see what I've applied for through the link for self-nominations, but it doesn't give me much info. We actually PCS'd here last year, so I'm currently working somewhere else, so waiting isn't a huge issue for me (from what I've seen and heard, the new hospital doesn't open until mid- Sept, which works well for me, personally, but if you're in behavioral health, they may be moving faster than other areas).

Yay- they just updated my 2nd application and it has been forwarded on, as well. 10 applicants (though that could be 10 that were forwarded on or 10 total, I don't know) for 4 positions, so at least the odds are decent. Did you find out anything or find a nurse recruiter? I have friend that AD and works there (though not a nurse), so I'm trying to see if she can give me a good POC.
