Definition of health and wellness

Published

Hi everyone!

I have an assignment for my Intro to Nursing class. I have to ask diffferent people what their personal definitions are for "health" and for "wellness". I am in the process of interviewing different people both in person and online, but I need to include a couple of nurses' opinions and I thought it would be a good idea to use allnurses.com.

Would someone mind helping me out please?

According to wikipedia, health is the level of functional or metabolic efficiency of a living being. In humans, it is the general condition of a person's mind, body and spirit, usually meaning to be free from illness, injury or pain (as in "good health" or "healthy").

According to dictionary.com wellness is the quality or state of being healthy in body and mind, especially as the result of deliberate effort, or an approach to healthcare that emphasizes preventing illness and prolonging life, as opposed to emphasizing treating diseases.

What is your personal definition for these? And if you don't mind, I also need your age... I know, but I need to ask different types of people, from toddlers to senior citizens, and different occupations. Just say "I'm in my 20's or in my 60's" if you don't want to say :-)

Thank you for your help!
