Dec. NCP grad - Jan ODS, Camp Lejeune

I just found out that I will be going to the Jan 6th ODS class, and from there going to Camp Lejeune for my first duty station. Kind of worried about Camp Lejeune, being a small hospital and not one of the big 3. I had it as my third choice, and actually changed it from Jacksonville, FL - but Jax isn't available anyways due to the influx of new grads already.

I am RN-BSN grad with about a year of experience nursing, but definitely still feel brand new. Anyone stationed there, or have any insight? I am hoping it will be a positive experience overall.

I don't have any advice as far as the medical aspect. However, my husband was stationed there when he was in the Marines. It's a pretty small base compared to some of the others. The hospital itself seems nice from what I have seen of it. I only went there a few times though. As far as things to do in the area, best bet is to drive to Wilmington :) It may be small, but we enjoyed our time there and made a lot of friends. I hope you like it!

Thank you for the input, no amount of info is too small when you're a worrier! :) I have been in (enlisted side) so I'm somewhat used to packing up & moving. I think it's mainly my husband I am worrying about, he will have to try to find another federal job and there's not much there for him compared to what there might've been in, say, Portsmouth.

I definitely understand what you mean there! The jobs were slim whenever we were stationed there. Not sure about federal jobs of course, but regular jobs were somewhat hard to find as well! Hopefully everything works out for your family! I'm sure you will enjoy it overall :)
