Debridement Types

Published

Multiple people told me differently, and now I am a bit confused...

Is "sharp debridement" same thing as "conservative sharp debridement"? Or, is it differently defined state by state??

I just feel like the definition of certain types of debridement are really vague depending on which state you are in... Along with the same line, what exactly separates "Surgical Debridement" from "Sharp (or Conservative Sharp, if applicable) Debridement"...? Is that the type of tissues that you can debride? Or, is it the type of tools that you can use? Or, is it totally different between states?

I am trying to make some comprehensive list of what you can and cannot do as a nurse, but some states do not even have yay or nay on debridement by RN whatsoever. They do not officially state anything, and it's driving me nuts!!! HELP! And, Thanks in advance!

Have you tried calling your state board of nursing? They are the ultimate source for scope-of-practice questions. By the way, I've never heard of conservative sharp debridement - where did you find it?

Here is the link for the "Conservative" sharp debridement. There are just too many names around here... I wanted to make a compiled list of all states, but I guess I'm just gonna stick with my own state. I can't call around 50 states (I could, but it'd be just too much...!)
