Do you know anything about the use of Heimlich maneuver in treating cystic fibrosis?

I am a pediatric pulmonary nurse. I have never heard of the Dr. discussing anything of this sort to treat CF kids. We are a national CF foundation clinic. I am not sure that I understand the rationale behind this. I know that the pt. need CPT from 1 to 4 times a day to help aid in getting rid of secretions. I would be curious to learn more about this. I will ask the Dr. that I am teamed with.

SOme say it is b/c it puts pressure on the lungs to help with the secretions. I think a far more effective way is to massage the back.

I've heard that being used for quads to help them cough. No clue about CF kids though. I've only had one CF patient. We used the therapy vest (The one that shakes the crap outta of em), postural drainage with CPT (Trendelenberg while massaging the infiltrate areas), and inline breathing treatments (Including Tobramycin nebs) and a percussive type breathing treatment.
