My girlfriend recently had a new infant that had a false/positive cystic fibrosis screen and was referred to the nearest children's hospital for follow-up. At first they were going to refuse to see the infant due to the "high numbers" of false/positive results they were seeing. Are any of the facilities or offices that you are working in seeing false/positive cystic fibrosis screens?

How can anyone know that a result is a false positive if the child hasn't been worked up yet?
What state do you live in? If the state lab is having some kind of accuracy problem, perhaps they can at least offer to re-do the screening test to help weed out some of the suspected false-positives. Short of that, I would INSIST on a specialist follow-up to rule this out.
Good luck!
