I am starting the program in fall 2011 and I am wondering what your typical schedule is like. What hours are you guys in class and clinicals? Do you have clinicals on weekends and holidays? Just curious.

Renee

For the class beginning in August 2010:

First year, first semester: classes 2 days per week (Mon, Weds); clinicals Thurs and Fri. Most holidays off. You get a certain amount of "vacation" time to use for clinical days only -- and you also use them for your holidays if they fall during clinical days. When the normal class is done, i.e. end of semester, you go to clinical 5 days per week.

First year, second semester: classes 2 days per week (Mon, Tues); clinicals Weds, Thurs and Fri.

Also, classes are done 1 class at a time for part of the semester, then the next class for part of the semester. So, they're intense, but you only focus on one class at a time.

Second year, you start taking some call time, but you get the day after call "off."

If you don't take the MSN intensive classes ahead of when the NA program starts, then you have those for about 6 straight days the week before each regular semester starts (for the first 5 semesters or something like that).

Clinicals: you usually get to the hospital before 6am. You are supposed to be there until at least 4pm. Some days longer, some not.

Class times: usually start at either 8am or 8:30am and last until around 4. Some days shorter, some longer.

Specializes in CVICU, anesthesia.

Very useful info, thanks! I was wondering the same about the breakdown of the schedule. :)
