Hi all,
I'm curious about the current FNP job market? I read many websites that describe how there is (and will continue to be) a shortage in primary care providers in the country. However, when I do a Google search for NP positions with Indeed.com or look at hospital job listings, there are only a few opportunities that exist. I remember talking with someone from HR at a local hospital and described the current NP market as 'over-saturated'. I've always wanted to become a NP or PA, it's unfortunate to hear that description. Not to mention the many threads of real people describing their difficulties finding work on this forum are discouraging as well.
I can see there is a need for primary care providers in my area, as new patients have to wait about a month until they see a provider. -- Or people in rural areas near me people have to drive 40 minutes to see a primary care provider for treatment for routine needs (respiratory infection). - But little jobs are available/found?
For people who recently graduated or know of someone who has graduated - what are your experiences?
- I've heard that 'cold' applications, when you apply to a place even if they don't have listings for a position are acceptable and successful.
- There is also the option of moving after graduation.
- In-class programs have higher employment/marketability?
- Making my own business/clinic wouldn't be appropriate for a new grad NP...
I would like to go back to school after a year of being an RN, but would like to hear your experiences and thoughts.
My background:
I just graduated as a BSN, RN and working in corrections
