Hi,
i was wondering where East bay did their clinicals. i heard that they do them in Oakland too. I know i might sound like a big scardy cat, but which part of Oakland? Is it the good part or the bad? I'm just scared because there are soo many crimes happening in Oakland right now, and i just don't want to be in that type of environment.
I would really appreciate it if you guys don't think im weird and stuck up because i'm really not that type of person. im just scared thats all.
Thank you

I just graduated from the Concord program and we did peds rotation at Childrens Hospital in Oakland (as did the Hayward cohort). We also did our periop rotation at Alta Bates and our Psych rotation at Herrick Hospital. I'm a suburban mom and I felt safe at all times. Make sure you carpool with a friend. I never felt the need to call the security guard for escort--which is a service all the hospitals provide.

I teach the psych rotation at Herrick. As far as I know, we've never had a student assaulted. However, it's always best to walk to your car with others.

We've always been lucky that the facilities have provided parking for us when we went to the hospitals. What was even nicer is that those facilities had security roaming around the parking areas at all times. Yeah the best advise that you've received is always go to your car with others. If it will make you feel better carry pepperspray on your keychain.
