Hi Everyone. I have a lot of questions. I am trying to apply for CSCC's nursing program [preferably the traditional track, fiance is going online route]. It is now November and we plan on applying for the April go. We both have BS's from OSU. I was wondering what the recruiters look for, what we could do to set ourselves apart. I also keep hearing about a wait list. What's up with that? It's nowhere on the website. I know we're firmly in semesters now, so maybe that's calmed down? I would love to know the acceptance rate; seeing as on here a lot of people seemed they didn't get in. All help is appreciated! I plan to quit my salaried career to do this program, and have to quit before I apply, so i'm terrified of applying and not getting in. Help please!

I graduated from CSCC's LPN program and have heard nothing good about the RN program. I have a BA (and an MS) and applied to the 2nd degree online program a few years ago, and I wasn't accepted. I e-mailed the online director twice trying to find out what I could do to improve my application and never received a response. My thought is that if the DIRECTOR of the online program can't even reply to an e-mail, the quality of the online program can't be that good.
I've heard from other people who have gone through (or tried to go through) the program. Instructors who try to weed people out, clinical instructors who eat their young, poor administration, etc. Now that I'm done with the LPN, I'm looking FAR FAR away from CSCC for an RN program.

To be fair, I'm relaying some secondhand information. I have a friend who tried to go through the program - she told me about her clinical instructors.
However, the experience about the online program was mine. My undergrad GPA was 3.1, graduate GPA 4.0, I don't remember my exact score on the HESI but I know it was high 90's. I couldn't even get a response from the online program director. I'm not saying my experience is an example of what every student should expect, nor is asmith's - I can only describe my experience as a reason why I personally would never consider reapplying to CSCC.

asmith - are you being paid? I am 5th quarter hybrid and I can't name a single person who likes the program. Maybe traditional is different. We do not get lectures. We aren't told what is going to be on the exams. They banned test reviews because they do not like being questioned. I know some people in 7th quarter right now who said even the ATI rep who came to do their ATI review was appalled at some of CSCC's policies and said they were "anti-learning." In addition, the environment is going BSN only so you're forced to do another 1+ years of school after CSCC before you can get a decent job. Do not expect to be taught anything in the program. You will teach yourself everything. And you can. I have a 3.8 GPA. It is doable. That doesn't make it anything higher than a terrible program. Oh and if you have a bad exam, the instructors will tell you to drop out and ignore friends and family who encourage you.
