crossing boundaries in pediatrics

Published

My name is Amanda and I am a nurse practitioner student working on my major paper. I am doing my paper on defining what healthy boundaries are in pediatrics. I've had many issues regarding this issue as an RN on an inpatient floor (deal with a lot of oncology patients as well as medsurg in pediatrics). I have written a few papers with observations from RNs on an inpatient unit and discussed issues with being overinvolved, becoming too close, crossing professional boundaries, etc. on my unit we developed certain rules to help nurses from crossing these healthy boundaries. I now want to know if any nurse practitioners have any issues with this in outpatient or inpatient settings. For example, do NPs or fellow pediatricians have problems becoming too close with families/pts where they have found negative impacts whether it being with themselves or with staff or just the patients/families. Any input/examples would be greatly appreciated. :uhoh3:
