Hello All - Just wondering what type of schedule you guys work? I aspire to one day graduate from a crna program. I'm getting a few pre-req's out of the way and will take an accelerated 1 yr. BSN program in the Fall of 2004 (I'm a career changer). I plan on working as an RN for several years (in the ICU of course!) and am concerned about long hours/weekends. Of course I know that it is expected of nurses, especially during this shortage, and I am committed to doing what it takes. However, I wouldn't want to have to work crap hours forever. Is it easier to find a Mon-Fri type of job when you become a CRNA?
Finally, kudos to you guys. I have such admiration for the work that you do. I started thinking seriously about changing my field of work 3 years ago when I had my daughter. The CRNA that took care of me during my labor and eventual c-section was the most comforting part of the entire procedure. I just had to have another surgical procedure again a few weeks ago, and the CRNA was just incredible at putting my mind at ease and explaining the various procedures. I'd like to think that I could do the same for others one day.
