Hi, yall. I'm a practicing CRNA in Houston and my family is looking to relocate to the SLC area. Does anyone know about the job prospects for CRNAs in or around the SLC area? I've not had a lot of success when looking on job posting sites. It doesn't appear to be a very CRNA-friendly state and I'm looking for any advice yall have about the area. Thanks!

Not sure if you've found a job yet and I'm probably a little late for this, but you're right.  Utah isn't a very CRNA friendly state. It pays a lot lower than most states and doesn't have a lot of job opportunities. The University of Utah is the main employer of CRNA's. Some Mountain Star and IHC hospitals employ them,  but not many.  I'd try the U first. I'm pretty sure Mountain Point Medical Center in Lehi and American Fork Hospital (IHC) hire CRNA's. I was born and raised in SLC and worked as a scrub for 4 years. Let me know if you have any other questions. Good luck!

@Astevens013, thanks so much for replying. You're absolutely right. Since I've posted this there has only been 1 job posting for a CRNA position, which I'm going to assume is a very competitive market within. Unfortunately, I'm not really interested in working at a medical center or university setting, so I think this kind of rules-out SLC for me. Thanks for replying!

I'm curious your reasoning for not wanting to work at a medical center or university setting, if you don't mind me asking. I'm wanting to become a CRNA and am interested in the different types of work environments and their pros and cons. If I want to stay in Utah, those are my options. So I'd need to move out of state if I wanted something different. What type of setting do you work in and what do you like about it? Thanks!

It’s really just personal preference. Med Centers and universities come with students and teaching. That’s not really something that I’m interested in. I work in private practice (community hospitals and surgery centers) with a lot of autonomy and I like to run my own cases. And while I don’t mind teaching, I don’t and to have to do it all day every day. Like I said, just personal preference. It’s all about finding your niche!
