Med/Surg transfer to ICU. Going for peer interview and no idea what to expect!

Hi all! I've been working on a oncology med/surg floor for a bit over a year now. I've been wanting to make the transition to critical care. Our ICU has a couple night shift openings, so I decided to go for it! I just had an interview with the manager and I feel that it went very well! The next step is a peer interview on the unit. I've never had a peer interview before, and really have no idea what to expect! Has anyone had experience with peer interviews? Any tips on how I should prepare for this? Thanks in advance!

When you meet everyone stand up to shake their hands and introduce yourself and for the love of God try to remember their names. Be nice, be cordial, be honest, as much as possible try to come off as a team player, someone that is hungry to learn and expand your knowledge base, someone that wants a challenge, someone that is teachable, and also someone that will do whatever it takes to become a better nurse. If at all possible, also ask them about how the team dynamic is at night because your team mates are very important to the success of the unit over all.

Also if you add something like "I want to work with the best, so that's why I want to work on The Unit". What I actually said in my peer interview when they asked why I wanted to work at the Academic Medical Center that I was applying to is "I am applying here because if you want to be the best, you have to train with the best." They all started blushing, laughing, and got all hot and bothered but in a good way. My managers still laugh about it to this day and said that I made quite the impression. Funny thing is, I made true to my promise and I am one of the best ICU RNs throughout all of our 5 units!
