Creating a Newsletter

Specialties Ambulatory

Published

Does anyone have any experience creating a newsletter for ambulatory services. My department has an interest in creating a newsletter with the target population being primarily physician's offices. There was an article in one of the nursing journals regarding newsletters for the medical field. Unfortuanatly, I am not sure which journal. I only remember that it was written in 1999. Thanks for any input that is out there.

I think this is a great idea. I would be interested in the replies you have received. I am an ASPAN member and have just returned from the National Conference. I attended a workshop for newsletter editors. There are a few sites for newsletters and ASPAN is in the process of compiling information to be included in a new handbook for newsletter editors. I work in a unit that is a combination pre-op for OP and AM Adm and discharge. PAT is part of our dept, we work together and are under 1 cost center, but don't ususally float. I live in Birmingham, AL....what about you?

I hope to be implementing a newsletter in Feb of 2001. Want to offer 6issues per year.

This will be a marketing tool for our cancer center. I will receiving input from oncology, hematology, radiation, social workers, dietician, nursing and pharmacy. Of course money is an issue...but try your pharmaceutical reps. They always can find money for things like this, especially if it for patient education (or staff education). You might be able to then set up a fund with your institution"s foundation to expedite paying of printing, etc. Could your Corporate Communication type dept be of help?

Let me know how you are progressing...good luck!
