I have a report for my transcription class and I can't find any nurses with time to answer a few questions. I was wondering if I could ask someone here. Please if you could help, I would appreciate it.

1. Name of place you work, and state.

2.What type of additional training do you need to be an OB/GYN nurse?

3. What other health care professionals do you encounter every day?

4. What conditions, diseases, or injuries do you see in patients?

5. What is your favorite thing about being an OB/GYN nurse?

Thank you so much for your time.

Specializes in Labor and Delivery, Newborn, Antepartum.

1) Newton Medical Center, Kansas

2) I didn't need additional training to get hired. All nurses are required to have BLS, so I had that. Once I was hired, I was required to get my NRP certification. As extra education, I later got my STABLE certification.

3) OBGYNs, Pediatricians, Repiratory Therapists, and Laboratory technicians

4) For the most part, our patient population is fairly healthy. However, we do see diabetic mothers (either pre-gestational or gestiational diabetics), hypertensive patients (chronic or pregnancy induced), and pre-eclamptics. We can have patients that suffer hemorrhage, preterm labor, infection, placental abruption, uterine rupture, and fetal demise. Following delivery, patient's experience pain from tears or even fractured tailbones.

5) I get to experience the miracle of birth every day that I work. I feel honored and blessed to be a part of such a life-changing experience. There is a lot of education and teaching in this field and it is absolutely a specialty that not all nurses can handle.

Thank you so much for answering the questions. I really appreciate your time.
