be prepared to take alot of organized notes. you may want to bring along a recorder if that is allowed. stay ahead of the game. read chapters prior to lecture so you are prepared to ask questions and clarify content that you are unsure of.
our lecture assignements were uaully to do pos. these included all information background, pathophysiology, meds, etc for certain disease processes. basically, you have to study so you understand what you are learning. lab assignments were researching and perfecting skills. our lab tests were to perform these skills. we had multiple choice tests that were designed like the nclex. basically all answers were right, we had to pick "the best".
we were allowed to wear anything to class, had to wear white lab coat for lab and white scrubs for clinicals.
good luck, it is all worth it in the end!!! i promise!

Follow directions. When you get the course syllabus, read it and stay on track with assignments. Be organized during lecture and labe, and manage your time.

I think it works well to try to understand the big picture - taking the time to understand the physiology/pathophysiology of the condition gives you way more 'tools' in your toolbox when it comes to answering test questions. There's a certain amount of stuff that just needs to be memorized (electrolyte values etc.) but for the most part, memorizing data doesn't do a whole lot for you if you can't understand it in the context that it's given to you. Time management and reading assignments before lectures has helped me. Also prioritizing - do I want to spend more time on the assignment that is worth 5% of my grade or do I want to spend more time on the mid-term worth 45% of my grade. Sometimes this one is hard for me, but really trying to honor the other parts of my life outside of school is important. Be passionate! School is hard and if you are passionate about your studies and this profession it will make the journey way more pleasant. Good luck.
