This morning I read an article about 2 cops that got fired for posting a sexual movie of themselves on a website (they didn't identify that they were cops, indicate where they worked, or anything like that) yet, they still got fired...and it got me thinking about...if your workplace finds something you've written on these boards, not favorable to your place of employment, but not breaching pt. confidentiality, etc... could you get fired for that?? Does anyone know of this ever happening to anyone? Now, I know posting something on here vs. a movie on some sex site is a little different, but it still makes me wonder...

I'm pretty sure I've read about cases where firings have been overturned when people were fired for doing Media videos and such, mostly because it was a legal activity done on their own time. However, they still had the major hassle of suing to get their jobs back.
As far as firings on this BB, I have read posts where people said they got in trouble since, apparently, there was enough detail to identify the posters. However, I haven't heard of anybody being fired for that, although I suppose that's possible.

If you are indiscreet and do NOT keep names/places/specifics out of your postings, YES you can get fired! Moral: use your common sense and follow HIPAA regulations to the letter when posting here. You never know who is reading what you write.

As a former police officer myself, I can definately see why this happened. Police officers are supposed to live by a seperate set of rules....and what they technically get fired for is "Conduct Unbecoming of an Officer". For example, in my dept. a big thing was if they caught you having an affair (if you were married) then you would be fired. However, if you were single and having an affair with a married person, then you wouldn't be fired for that....I guess because you could always say you didn't know they were married. I'm not saying all this is necessarily right, it's just the way it is. "Conduct Unbecoming...." is a VERY serious thing in any police dept.
Now, as nurses, sure, I'm sure we could technically get in trouble for some of the things we talk about, but most of us are usually vague enough to keep us safe. I suppose it's just a matter of whether or not you cross that thin little line! :uhoh21:

If people aren't smart enough to know that posting Media films of themselves on the Web MIGHT be seen by someone and MIGHT cause a few questions to be asked, then they deserve whatever happens to 'em. 'Nuff said. :stone

Some teachers' contracts also have clauses in them requiring them to avoid certain behaviors -- to maintain the public's ability to trust them with their children and to provide their students with what the community considers "positive role models."

I was reading some old threads one day and it was said that at least one person DID lose their job over what they posted on here. I'd just be careful. No place is completely safe and I would never say anything here that I don't want everyone to know.

You're right, Kim. I just put myself in the place of the pt, and would I want MY info plastered on a public forum? I hate that I can't even talk to my pharmacist in private, and I tell them I will call and talk to them instead of standing in line where everyone and their brother can here about what meds I take.

What i'd like to know is what happens to the people that FIND these videos online? I mean, if two people are going to get fired for making it, then why is the person that FOUND it getting nothing???
As for on this BB, this is the main reason whyputting your picture on here is the the worst idea.

well yes i agree, if you are purposely trying to be vague.
but there are people here (moi) that don't leave much to the imagination in terms of their identity. so yes, i make sure anything i say cannot be used against me, since i am such an easy catch.

seems like someone from here had a post printed out and posted on the BB at work from here and it caused a lot of problems. Best not to say anything specific.

Nurses used to have to behave in such a manner also. It is very sad that it is not that way now. The language here is pretty raw and may offend some but it''s the truth of it...
