Could AllNurses ever become a PAC/grassroots organization ?

That would lobby, persuade and bully both State and Federal governments (not to mention HMO's, Dr's, and nursing schools) to do what is right for nurses and patients? Would such a move defeat the purposes of the organization? Is it even possible to have a real grass roots organization that doesn't become top heavy with Ph'D academics more concerned about politics and personal gain than what's right for the field as a whole?

There is a grassroots organization that does just this for nurses and ONLY nurses. It is United American Nurses. It is associated and supported by the ANA.
