Coude catheter nursing policy

Hi fellow nurses, 

I am a ICU nurse and working on my QI project at one of the hospitals in Manhattan. Could you tell me what is your hospital's policy on a coude catheter insertion? Are nurses allow to insert a coude? Do you have to try with a straight tip regular catheter before using a coude? What is the criteria for getting a coude catheter?
