i couldn't figure out the right answer for this IV calculation question. please help me :(

order: iv normal salin at 125mL/hr.

tubing available: macrodrip tubing (15gtts/mL).

At 0700hrs there is 1000mL TBA.

at what time will the bag be completed completely empty?

___hrs.

Ok it would take 8hrs for 1000ml at 125ml/hr to be completely empty so the answer would be 1500hrs

but the thing is there is a macrodrip tubing of 15gtt/ml

I think that is just there to throw you off! You dont need that if there is

a pump going 125ml/hr

The size of the tubing doesn't matter. If you needed to calculate drops per minute, you would need it. But the question gives you the rate already (125mL/hr). All you need to do is figure out how many hours it will take to the bag (1000mL/125mL per hour = 8 hours.) Then count forward from 0700 until you have reached eight hours and you'll get 1500 or 3pm.

oh! you are actually correct! :)

LOL well thanks Glad I could help

it is 8 hrs. solve it like this:

hr=1hr/125 mL X1000mL=8hrs (1700 plus 8 hrs=1500 or 3pm (because you are looking for hr,put that first thing in your equation. Hr should be on top, over 125mL then multiply by 1000mL and mL cancel out each other.now you are left with hours.

if the question asked for gtts/min,then you use whatever drop factor they give you.But in this case it is only asking for how many hrs the bag will infuse.
