Cooperative Programs Pay?

Published

Hello,

Does anyone know if as a nursing student in a cooperative hospital based program-are the sudents paid? I was looking into Capital Health in Trenton NJ...I know it's a Coop program but what exactly does that mean??

Thanks

I'm at Capital Health now, and no, it's not paid. That would be a nice perk, though :) I think it means that it's a co op with Mercer County College. So, when I graduate I will have a diploma in nursing and an Associates from MCCC. You take your gen ed. classes at the college, your nursing classes at the hospital. It's a really great program, though.

Thanks. So, you like it? Are there classes everyday, what is the schedule like? I have been curious but it is really hard to get specific info. I go to MCCC and I'm not 100% sure which nursing program to do. CHSON has less pre-reqs.

Thanks for any info-Good Luck!

I do really like it. We had to do a 3 week course in the summer that was 5 days a week, 6 hours a day. That's when I got most of the info about the program. For the fall semester, classes/clinicals are mostly 3 days a week, with 1 extra day built in for help on skills labs if needed. 9-3 is the normal time for classes, but some days are shorter here and there. They are very detailed with their schedule, which I really like. From what I've seen I really like it, but it's going to be very hard (a lot more than MCCC's program). There's a lot of material, a lot of reading, and they move very fast. Plus, you need to have an 80% to pass. 79% is failing. I did like not having to take Chem 107 :) The nurses who teach there are wonderful. Very friendly and supportive. Plus, if you can pass the entrance tests and get accepted, it's quicker to get into than MCCC. Good luck to you also!

Thanks so much. I want was talking to a few people and I started realizing that the MCCC program has more pre-reqs...and I totally agree with you -I pass on Chem 107...so far I am right on track to start the CHSON next August. I just want to be able to work too. That sounds like a tough schedule to work around.

I've heard of people working during it. I'm not, but I have a 1 year-old and a 2 year-old. So that's enough for me.

Aww. I want to do PT maybe. I have a 9 yr old and 4 yr old so I know what you mean. Thanks. This info has been helpful. It is hard to talk to people at Mercer, i find that many of the faculty members are not pleasant. I know we all have our days but....:wink2:
