Confusion about where to apply for license

Published

I hope I am posting this in the right forum....

I currently live in South Dakota, a compact state, and will graduate nursing school this December. My husband is military, and we'll be moving to Texas by the end of the year, which is another compact state. I want to keep my residency in South Dakota, so I am unsure of which state I need to get my nursing license through. I understand that your primary state of residency is the state where you are registered to vote, have a driver's license, etc. I have all of that through South Dakota, but when I move to Texas and start working, will I need to become a Texas resident anyway??? Life for a military spouse is sooo confusing sometimes!!

click under the region heading and click on SD or TX to ask the nurses who live in those states...you should also be able to contact BON in those states....or the nursing faculty at you school.
