Nurses Career Support

Published

hi everyone, it's been a while since my last post and i really need some help here. we'll here goes, i'm an RN graduated 1995 and only had months training in a small community hosp back home. i love every minute of it, even if it's really draining all my energy i'm not complaining coz i love helping people. my only problem is my low self esteem, one time i made a very small mistake and one of the nurse from our shift made me feel that i'm incompetent. i stopped took a job not related to nursing. got married 1998 stop working, gave birth to my eldest. i didn't totally closed all options of going back, i'd read my old books and lectures once in a while. at the start of 2002 i tried to go back training to a different hospital and i'm really excited with all high hopes of coming back at last. they put me to ER with little to no orientation...can you imagine?!!! some nurse are accommodating but are really busy and some , they really don't care less! i quit after 2wks and have not been back since then. now i'm in the middle east bcoz my hubby works here, gave birth to my 2nd child last 2003 and i still think of nursing but being here puts me in a very difficult situation. no refresher course offered by hosp, i heared they only give it to their citizen. two wks ago i turned down a job offer at a derm clinic coz i was worried about leaving my kids to baby sitting for long hours. working hours here in the middle east is different 9am-12pm then 4-9pm. aside from that i'm reviewing coz i want to try nclex, i gave away the job and now i'm so lost i cannot concentrate on anything. i love nursing that my heart swells whenever people appreciate every little thing i do but i don't know where to start.

i was about to do hurst review but first i need your advise. should i go for it. or should i be off with my kids. i'm 30 now and i don't want to grow old blaming myself of not doing anything about my career. please help...

Just trying to understand... did you take the NCLEX in 1995 when you graduated? If you didn't, I believe you will have to go back school or take some kind of *extensive* review. If you took the NCLEX (and passed) when you graduated, you don't need to take it again. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong......
