Confused and Concerned: Feat. Golden West College and OCC

Published

Alrighty, I am about to start my prereqs for 2014, however I am not sure as to whether I want to go to OCC or GWC. I have applied and have been accepted in to both colleges, so as of now it is a matter of decision. Yes, Golden West has a nursing program, however I have heard that it takes a really long time to get into. So, with this in mind, would it be more beneficial to get my mandatory classes done and over with and then transfer to a four year university with a nursing program, or should I wait around for the one at Golden West? Because by terms of campus and convenience I would prefer to go to OCC.

If I am missing something or if I am completely misunderstanding the entirety of the subject, please let me know!

I recommend going wherever you can get into the classes needed. And just make sure (if confused meet with a counselor) that the class your taking will be the equivalent of the prereq needed to apply at GWC (or any other preferred school)

The school location ultimately doesn't matter for where you get in or accepted...it can take time (depending on whether you have a good enough registration date to get into the classes before they fill up) but the school location ultimately doesn't matter.

So, occ or GWC or both if you need to (to increase your chances of getting into the prereqs)

I completed all my prereqs at PCC (Pasadena city college) because although it wasn't near to where I lived I had taken previous courses there and had a better registration date than the college nearby my house. (Which led to me being able to get into the classes needed in a timely fashion)...it was an annoying commute, but it got me through the prereqs quick enough.

Because I took my prereqs at pasadena...when I applied at goldenwest since PCC is "outside region 8" I had to submit my transcripts months earlier than the application date to verify that they coincided with GWC's prereqs (a requirement for any prereq taken out of region 8 otherwise they will not bother to even look at your application when you turn it in)

Long story short it was my first time applying to GWC nursing program this year and I got accepted :)

So the school you choose is really up to you...I would just recommend going wherever you can get into the classes sooner...and getting good grades in the courses. Keep your gpa as clean as possible will help ...and it doesn't hurt to have an Associate or Bachelors degree when applying to schools such as GWC which go based off a point system instead of lottery.

Whatever you decide ...best of luck to you :) hope this gave some insight
