I am starting NS in august. I have thought about getting my CNA before then however all the programs close to me require you to get accepted to the cna program first. Are there other ways I can get it besides a cc?

I'm taking mine through an RN who runs a small school just for CNA. Around here, you can take them at places like the one I'm doing, you can take them at larger career schools (usually kind of expensive though), nursing facilities (LTC), or community college. I would try to find another option. Just make sure the price is comparable to a CC and that they have all the necessary accreditation for your state.
I know for my school, two of the women from the last class were already hired at the rehab they did clinicals at. They have not even tested yet. I have also heard that when some nursing facilities offer the class, they hire people from the classes they do.

Depending on the state you may be able to go get a PCA certification (personal care assistant) - then it is easy to contact the state and challenge the CNA test. That is the way I did it. I went through a home health agency, got paid for taking the PCA class, then got hired by a LTC and they paid for my CNA test! This is the way many people do it in my area- It is alot faster and YOU get paid!! Good luck!
