I have been in the healthcare game for over twenty years first as an NAR and now as a CNA, off and on and I am pretty sure the 12 hours of yearly CEs haven't changed yet the WA state department of health have conflicting information. On Home :: Washington State Department of Health under the NursingAssistant/LicenseRequirements section it says:
[h=3]Renewal Requirements[/h]"Certified nursing assistants must renew their certification on or before their birthday each year. There are no continuing education requirements."
Yet on on Washington State Department of Social and Health Services | Transforming Lives it states:
"Most Long Term Care workers must complete 12 hours of Continuing Education (CE) each year before their birthday."
It was my understanding that Long Term Workers WERE CNAs/NARs!
At any rate, I think it's a good idea to continue to take yearly CE classes. Better to be safe, (and well-prepared!), than sorry and struggling to make those class hours!

I just noticed this too, but I'm still a bit confused with the whole CE thing... so since it says we don't have CE requirements when renewing our license, does that still mean we have to have 12 hours of CEs each year? Also, is there a way to get these CEs online do you think?

I work in Longview, WA and we have inservices throughout the year that are considered a part of continuing education... If the state needed proof of CE, then they just have to contact my employer.
