I'm interested in hearing from someone who uses laptops/computers in their clinical charting (instead of 50-60 forms for an admit)

Would like to introduce this to my agency, but first want to see if it is really as cost effective as it is proclaimed to be.

We have been using a point of care documentation system for 7 yrs now. Its a great way to have the clinician admit/discharge the patient.The clinicians learn the software and the device which is not that hard if you have a nurse teaching both segments to the staff.Your chart is complete to send out for signatures once the nurse has intered all the info into the system at the pt's home down loads it and prints.They also have the capability to import/export pts from anywhere there is a phone line.You also have an updated record at all times for anyone to view at any given time provided they have access to a pc.Our nurses to not understand just how good they have it not having to use the paper tools with the documentation much less PPS.I hope this help to answer you question about computer documentation.

I just left a Home Health agency that used laptop computers. There is a longer learning curve when staff is new to them but the benefits of communication from multiple disp, office outweighs that. If you would like, I can put you in touch with the educator at the agency I left so that you could call and discuss all the pros and cons. overall, it is better than paper.
