COMPASS placement test...anyone? Advice?

I have decided to go to college and begin my pre-nursing courses. I have never been to college and I am 31. I am told that I have to take the COMPASS test for placement. Has anyone else had to take this test? Any advice on how I can study for this? I never took Algebra in high school and it is required. I was looking at buying books to study but all I'm really finding are SAT books...is it the same? I feel like I need a full refresher course before I even begin testing.

Any advice/help is appreciated!

Thank you:mad:

I too took the compass test. I had been out of school for 14 years. I failed the math section and spoke to a counselor who advised me to study up on the math and retake to compass math section to avoid having to take a class that would not apply as a pre-req. I bought Barron's Math The Easy Way. I did every chapter until I could pass the end of the chapter test with 100%. Then I took the final in the back of the book and in the front of the book. Any wrong answers and I would re do the entire chapter that the question came from. I worked in this book for an hour a day while I took other classes that filled my first semester. When I retook the test I scored so high in the math section that I scored above the basic algebra class and did not have to take it. So, not only did I not have to take a 0500 course I got my algebra 101 course waived:yeah: Get shopping. I am looking at the book right now. the ISBN is 0-7641-2011-5. I would be willing to spend hundreds on this book, but I think it only cost 24?

I had to take the COMPASS test. I did fine, but I was also just out of high school. I would suggest googling "compass test review". They have several options on ways to study including sample questions.

Good luck!

Wow! That is wonderful that you did so well! I know that the math is going to be where my issues are. I have been to the library and look at any books I can find. Your post was helpful, I will try to find that book!

Thank you!:D

Michigansstudent....I just wanted to let you know that I was able to find that book you suggested on amazon.com for $1.85! With shipping it was less than $6 so I ordered it! Thank you so much! It looks like exactly what I need! I am so out of the "school" loop that I need all the refreshing I can get!

Thanks again! :yeah:
