Hello,

I am a new nurse on a Med-Surg floor & I've been on my own for approx 4 months now. While I was in training I took a Chemotherapy Certification class... I passed and in order for me to admininster Chemo I had to be signed off by another Chemo Certified nurse on administering 4 different Chemo drugs. Now that I'm on my own for example last week, I heard the charge nurse making the assignments and we had a Chemo patient I really wanted the patient so I can get the experiece with Chemo.. but I don't feel ready yet so I didn't speak up and say I had my certification because I'm not sure if I'm ready for the task... And i don't feel competent in that area even if I got my certificaition the class was only for 2 days.. and I don't feel that I learned enough to start doing Chemo.. I know there are alot of precautions to take. I just feel like I shouldn't of took the class so soon because I am still new and am still trying to get the feel of my routine for now. If anyone can please offer some advice. thanks.

If you get the assignment and have another nurse agree to mentor you that shift, then you will probably do fine. I generally create a checklist when I am doing something new so I don't forget the things I need to look for, chart, etc.

thank u sounds good... yeah i should just go for it. :yeah:
