In spring of 2017 I will be applying for CNM/CM distance programs at:
Stony Brook University
Philadelphia University
Georgetown University
Frontier Nursing University
I am definitely applying for a HRSA scholarship, though I am told that last year 191 out of 1800 applications were accepted for funding, and preference is given to medical and dental students. My hospital runs an outpatient community health clinic that I am trying to get auto-approved as a HRSA site, so that if by chance I do get the scholarship I can work there after I finish my degree. I am looking for any other scholarship opportunities as I absolutely cannot afford to go into more debt (already in debt from nursing and undergrad!). I would really appreciate any guidance from someone who has a HRSA or any other grant/scholarship for midwifery programs. Here is some information about me if it helps narrow down my chances of admission to these programs and scholarships.
Undergrad GPA (BA in Anthropology): 3.81 at SUNY Geneseo
Working in OB for 3+ years as an RN. Prior to this I was a birth doula and volunteer at the hospital. Will be RNC-OB and C-EFM in the next year. Teach childbirth classes through the hospital and will be ICEA certified in next twelve months. Piloting, researching and teaching a class at the community health clinic about pregnancy nutrition on a budget. Piloting and teaching a class for planned cesarean sections. Conducting an in-hospital study on pain control during infant circumcision.
I am mostly waiting to apply so that I can strengthen my application with the extra certifications and so that I can take my time getting an A in a statistics class that I will take at a community college this January. Any guidance is very very appreciated!! Thank you
