CNA, does it transfer between different states?

Nurses General Nursing

Dear all:

Currently I work as an accountant in New Jersey. Sometime next year I am going to quit the job and going to nursing school full-time. Now I am thinking doing CNA training after work and become a CNA first.

I want to find out if the CNA certification in New Jersey is automatically transferrable to the State of New York, Michigan, or pennsylvania. These are the three states I most likely to go to school to.

Many thanks

Nothing "automatically" transfers from state to state. You need to check with the Boards of Nursing of the states in question to see if they accept the educational preparation and certification requirements of New Jersey. If so, then you will still have to apply for certification in the new state and pay the appropriate fee.

Good luck!

Jolie, Thanks.

I know for RN license needs endorsement to work in a different state. And some states might not accept graduates from certain RN programs accepted by another sate. But not sure about CNA.

I will call to see.

Thanks

I just made several calls.

One can basically transfer to New York and Pennsylvia using respirosity. Michigan state is different, it requies one certified in another state to sit and pass Michigan state exams, while education requirement is exempted if one has been educated in another state.
